an excerpt from an incredible book –

On the necessity of stillness—

  • Stillness provides a pathway for remembrance of God.
    • “As I lie in bed, I remember you; all night long I think of you, because you have always been my help. In the shadow of your wings I sing for joy.” (Psalm 63:6-7)
  • When anxious thoughts arise, revisiting the places where God has been our help allows us to shift from fear to faith.
    • “Samuel then took a large stone and placed it between the towns of Mizpah and Jeshanah. He named it Ebenezer (which means ‘the stone of help’), for he said, ‘Up to this point the LORD has helped us!’” (1 Samuel 7:12)
  • Deliberately remembering the ordinary and extraordinary things God has done for us cultivates a heart of thanksgiving.

what I discovered –

  • Throw the party you’d want to be at not the one you think others want to be at
  • Escalators make great stair-masters at any airport 
  • A river that’s low is one of the saddest things to see
  • Best dating advice I’ve heard— ensure intentional time that’s dedicated to one another. Not at the end of the workday or with others but just for each other. 
  • Take the trip with your friends. You’ll never regret it.
  • Log your adventures and your journeys. It’s helpful to look back on but also a great way to reflect and reset your mind when it’s feeling full. 
  • Family nearly trumps all other relationships. You may not need much more. 
  • Maria’s Empanadas are the bomb in Denver

what I wouldn’t try again –

Don’t tattoo anyone after 10pm. It’s just too exhausting and the result is never up to standard.

Know when the season has ended. I believe this was the last 4th of July rager I’ll throw, it feels like it’s time to grow into the next thing.

how life is beautiful –

Spending a week with family and then friends in Colorado was a highlight. Mountain sunsets, summits, hot tubs, off-roading rental vans– it’s all better when you’re with people you love and laugh a lot with.

Getting lots of quality time with people who matter the most. Driving across the country with a brother and seeing old friends on the way was a big gift.

Being encouraged by brothers who know me well and are on the same mission was a reminder I needed. S/O the men in my life who push me higher and make me incredible steaks.
