what I’ve created –

what I’ve listened to –

quote I liked –

“The world is like a book and he who never travels reads just one page. ” – JW

“High top end, no grit no mud” – JH

“Every now and then throw a memorable party. The price will be steep, but long afterwards you will remember the party, whereas you won’t remember how much is in your checking account.”

“Where you live—what city, what country—has more impact on your well being than any other factor. Where you live is one of the few things in your life you can choose and change.”

“Be the guy. The guy who makes everything happen: Plans the nights out. Books the trips. Gets the first round. Sends drinks to the girls’ table. Cracks jokes. Sets the vibe. Leads by example. Lifts everyone up. Life goes best for the men who take the lead.”

“Keep your eye on the donut, not the hole.”

“We were in the middle of nowhere in Chicago Illinois” – Girl from a pub in NZ

“No fur coat, just knickers” – Unknown old man in NZ

what a man should do according to a 1920s book on first aid –

“Be calm. Take command, and give orders. Locate the injury. Know what to do, and do it. Keep onlookers away from the patient. Treat for physical shock. Keep the patient laying down.”

I think the phrase “know what to do, and do it” is so simple yet so powerful and very much forgotten in today’s generation. It’s important to know what to do and to do it.

what I discovered –

  • The house needs structure- and the rooms must be on the same land.
  • Make a list of reflections on what you need in each season. It’s a guiding compass as you navigate the new chapters.
  • Instead of looking to folks your own age to find alignment or “peers” seek the wiser elders. They are the people who you can engage with and match. Be filled by the Father, by poured into by mentors, and pour out onto your peers.
  • Always go to the concert, even alone, you’ll never regretted it. Discovered HOLYWATR this month and they were a fantastic show.
  • A good cast iron seared steak is easier to cook than expected and worth doing often
  • New Zealand is home to some of the kindest people, the most beautiful nature, and the most restorative land.

what I tried (and loved) –

Benny’s K’Road – Some phenomenal burgers / BBQ in Auckland

Delicious Kebab Te Awamutu – The kebabs in NZ was the sleeper player. Not one kebab shop missed and everyone was a Texas sized portion. Delicious Kebab was our favorite.

Texas Pete’s BBQ Joint Taopo – Maybe the most tender brisket I’ve ever had. Worth the trip for this alone. Heard they’re opening one in Auckland too.

Cobb & Co – Solid chain offering 2kg of ribs that slapped.

Emmalou Macaron & Coffee House – Fantastic breakfast with blood sausage, eggs, homemade sausages, etc. Great people.

Floriditas – Great date night spot in Wellington.

Body Fuel Cafe Taupo – Incredible breakfast here as well, beginning to think most breakfast is better in NZ.

Chur Bae – One of the best breakfast spots in Auckland

Saint Alice – Soft spot for this one, great date night spot near the Viaduct with a fun Irish pub underneath, will go back.

Trainstation – Good folks, Great gym.

Highly Likely – Great brunch spot, PB&J Latte and Fried Chicken French Toast in Ojai.

what I wouldn’t try again –

Not a single regret this month but I should always eat out less.

how life is beautiful –

Too many moments of pure joy. New Zealand will have a special place in my heart and to spend a week running around and just playing was one of the more restorative experiences of my life. Running in the rain to waterfalls, jumping in rivers, singing hymns, eating too many kebab plates, summiting mountains, laughing till your cheeks hurt, one of the more beautiful times of my life.

HOLYWATR was a really good show and it almost felt purging of things I didn’t want to hold onto. Really glad I went.
